To Jump In Or Not | Pause | Greatness Mindset

Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.

You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:

Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge

LEARN
Something Worth Sharing

To Jump In Or Not

When humans are under pressure there is a strange thing that happens, we revert to ‘action’. Even when we sometimes know better, we can end up jumping in head first. Our survival strategies of doing what we can set in. When we suffer loss or trauma, we get practical and busy. Even when our primitive triggers of fight and flight set in, they are there to lead us to types of action.

While working with a few folks recently, we watched them completing a task. Even before some had finished reading the instructions, others were instantly jumping in. While action is often admirable, the question of whether - and even when - to jump in or not, is essential.

My daughter is currently doing her final exams at school and we reminded her of the importance of ‘reading the question in full’. Taking even just an extra second to process before jumping in can mean the difference between knowing what’s required and heading down the wrong path! This is the same for conversations; listen fully before jumping in.

ENERGY
An emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s

Pause

Continuing on from the Learn this week, the importance of taking a pause before jumping in is extremely valuable.

The word is from Latin PAUSA meaning "a halt, stop, cessation", and from Greek PAUEIN "to stop, hold back, arrest, to cause to cease".

ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference

Make Something Better

Whether you choose to tidy a room, clean your car, organise your files or resolve a challenge of some description, the action this week is to make something better than it was. Oh, and don’t forget to take a brief pause first!

PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)

“What does freedom mean to you?”

We love words, as you may well know. The word freedom can have many meanings. What does it mean for you to feel free? What does freedom mean to you? What lies behind your thoughts about freedom?

I’d love for you to send me your own stories / thoughts about this. Drop me a line with your answer / thoughts on this question

SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition - my gratitude or to be celebrated.

Challenging Questions

I often tell people that I adore questions and that they are extremely powerful, but the best questions for me are the ones that challenge your thinking. A question that stops and makes you search in your mind for your answer - or even your heart - is a wonderful thing. Shout out to challenging and thought-provoking questions.

  • L: what have you learned?

  • P: what are you thinking / processing?

  • S: who or what can you shout out?
