The Unmagic Magic| Pace | The Let Them Theory

Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.

You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:

Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge

LEARN
Something Worth Sharing

The Unmagic Magic

As the new year takes hold, so too does the amount of TikTok and Instagram “fitness” videos and adverts. You’ll have seen it: “New Year, New You!”. When I was talking to my personal trainer about this he said that it will soon drop off when people lose the motivation - that is, until Spring-time and people see their summer vacations approaching along with a need to be ‘beach-ready’. That’s the next peak for gym membership!

Every year the cycle is the same. Well-meaning resolutions are in place, but when the results aren’t immediate, people drift off and revert to old behaviours. So, is there a magic spell that would change this? Yes!

Indeed, there is magic that can transform our bodies, our craft, our work our fitness, our lives…BUT it’s really quite unmagical magic. It’s called: doing the work consistently despite how dull and boring it is. In Mel Robbin’s language, this is called ‘Doing The Reps’. There is no way round this - if you truly want to achieve your goals, whatever they may be, you have to keep showing up and doing the work. Just as any elite athlete, successful businessperson, parent with well-balanced and behaved children, world class author or artist…they all found the magic through doing the unmagicness of work and reps.

ENERGY
An emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s

Pace

Very often we look at things through the lens of speed - to get things done quickly. However, it’s also worth remembering the power of pace.

The word ‘pace’ is from Latin PASSUM meaning "a step, stride" and based on the noun PANDERE "to stretch (the leg), spread out". If we only operate at one speed, we can shrink ourselves (and definitely tire) - pace reminds is to spread out, pause and to take time. It means we’re better prepared to speed up when we really need to.

ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference

Handwritten Note

Send a handwritten note to someone - or to yourself! It can be a ‘thank you’ or a compliment.

PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)

“What aspect of life do I need to do more reps in?”

Focusing on the LEARN this week, what could you do more reps in? Where could you better concentrate your efforts and work?

I’d love for you to send me your own stories / thoughts about this. Drop me a line with your answer / thoughts on this question

SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition - my gratitude or to be celebrated.

New Storage

A very personal shout out this week…I got myself better storage for my drawings (I have hundreds of them!). Being able to store things well and safely is a time-saver, looks better and stops the worry of damage. Shouting out my new plan-drawers.

LEAPS is a process used by our team and clients all the time - and even my own family on a daily basis.

I’ll be sharing a set of LEAPS each week with you and encourage you to do your own version:

  • L: what have you learned?

  • E: what’s your energy / feeling word

  • A: what’s one thing you need to do?

  • P: what are you thinking / processing?

  • S: who or what can you shout out?
