Accidental Customer Zero| Contemplate | The Art of War

Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.

You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:

Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge

LEARN
Something Worth Sharing

Accidental Customer Zero

When I guest lecture, I often get asked about how I developed the GLAS Method®. There’s definitely part of me that would love to share a grand story of research and academic studies - but that isn’t the case. The much simpler truth is that I developed a solution for challenges that I experienced in our family business. I wanted to help myself first - I was the accidental customer zero.

Once the then ‘un-named approach’ started to come to life and create the impact I needed, people began to take notice. That’s how I started working with incredible family businesses. They loved the creativity and genuine impact that this had - especially delivered by someone who not only felt their pain, but had lived it. From there we realised that the GLAS Method® could help with culture, leadership, communication and so much more.

Many of the entrepreneurs I know that have created truly sustainable products and services have done so not because they wanted to make millions, but because they needed a solution to something themselves.

The visuals that I create of non-fiction books - and that have led to me working with some of the world’s greatest thought-leaders, authors and businesses - were initially created for me. I need to visualise content to retain it, and after doing this for numerous books, my husband suggested I upload them and share them with others - hence visualsynopsis.com. It really became an accidental business offering.

When we create something for ourselves as the ‘accidental customer zero’, we are really solving a genuine challenge. If you’ve felt the challenge you’re solving, you can guarantee someone else has also faced it too - hopefully they will turn out to be your ‘customer one’!

ENERGY
An emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s

Contemplate

My word this week was inspired by the time between Christmas and New Year - and how we can have the chance to perhaps think about what has been and what will come. I find it’s a time to contemplate.

It comes from Latin CONTEMPLARI meaning "to gaze attentively, observe; consider" originally "to mark out a space for observation". It is formed from COM ‘with’ + TEMPLUM ‘area for the taking of auguries (predict the future)’.

ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference

Learn and Grow

Whether you choose to read a new book, research something, attend a talk, listen to a podcast or ask questions, the suggested ‘action’ this week is to intentionally go and learn something new so that you continue to grow.

PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)

“Am I where I need to be - and how do I know this?”

A deliberately open question for you to sit and ‘contemplate’ (see what I did there?!). You might think of this in terms of your physical situation, or perhaps in a more emotional way.

I’d love for you to send me your own stories / thoughts about this. Drop me a line with your answer / thoughts on this question

SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition - my gratitude or to be celebrated.

Thank You

A massive shout out this week - when you receive a ‘thank you’. I guess we can also shout out when we give a ‘thank you’ too! That’s it, nice and simple - and yet so important.

LEAPS is a process used by our team and clients all the time - and even my own family on a daily basis.

I’ll be sharing a set of LEAPS each week with you and encourage you to do your own version:

  • L: what have you learned?

  • E: what’s your energy / feeling word

  • A: what’s one thing you need to do?

  • P: what are you thinking / processing?

  • S: who or what can you shout out?
