Quiet Leadership | Steady | Invisible Influence

Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.

You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:

Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge

LEARN
Something Worth Sharing

Quiet Leadership

Leadership is often described in terms of visibility, influence, or impact on others, but some of the deepest leadership is quieter than that. It does not announce itself or seek validation. Instead it shapes people through consistency, fairness, and the way values are lived rather than stated.

I’ve been reflecting this week on the influence of someone who led in exactly this way. My grandpa, whose birthday would have fallen this week, was a strong, proud, and quiet man. He did not talk about leadership, but he lived it. His influence on me came not from what he expected of others, but from how clearly he knew who he was and what mattered to him, particularly when it came to fairness and how people are treated.

That clarity created trust. It set boundaries without force. It showed that leadership does not require explanation when it is grounded in integrity. The legacy of that kind of leadership is subtle, but it lasts. It continues to shape choices, standards, and perspective long after the person themselves is gone.

ENERGY
An emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s

Steady

The word ‘steady’ is from the Middle Low German stadig, meaning firm or settled. Steady reflects a grounded way of being that does not rush, sway, or perform.

ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference

Subtle Influence

Notice where you are trying to explain or prove. In one moment this week, do less and lead from what you know matters.

PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)

“Who has influenced me most, and in what ways?”

This week’s question invites you to reflect on the people who have shaped you quietly and consistently, helping you notice how influence often comes from lived values rather than visible action or words.

I’d love for you to send me your own stories / thoughts about this. Drop me a line with your answer / thoughts on this question

SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition - my gratitude or to be celebrated.

Co-working

During my recent time on jury service, there was a huge amount of waiting around alongside a lot of people. In the gaps, a few of us found corners to work from, and without planning or structure, an informal co-working space emerged. That shared, quiet productivity became a highlight, a reminder that even in stillness or delay, connection and momentum can form naturally when people adapt together.

I’ll be sharing a set of LEAPS each week with you and encourage you to do your own version:

  • L: what have you learned?

  • E: what’s your energy / feeling word

  • A: what’s one thing you need to do?

  • P: what are you thinking / processing?

  • S: who or what can you shout out?
