Something Worth Sharing
Progress Isn’t Magic
I’ve have heard lots of people over the years telling me that they want to achieve certain things: write a book, get a six-pack, lose weight, get a promotion, play a musical instrument, earn more and so on. Having a dream or a vision is fantastic - however, many of these same people have one thing stacked against them; they are doing nothing towards their vision, not even taking the smallest of steps.
One of the consistently most popular downloads of my visual synopsis pieces is for James Clear’s book Atomic Habits. The reason for this is probably linked to people knowing they need to take small consistent steps (habits) in order to achieve - even if they don’t actually follow through and do it. Progress isn’t magic. Progress is actually very simple - it is the culmination of many small actions done consistently over a period of time. To put it another way, what we do today will determine the progress we make tomorrow and the days that follow.
Take two people, each setting out to do the same thing and achieve success. The thing that will determine one of them being successful while the other may not be, is often the willingness to endure discomfort and stick to doing the work. Wishful thinking isn’t the way to make progress, be successful or even to be happy. Action is required.
ENERGY
An emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s
Smooth
After an interesting week working in the States, one of the things we were looking to do was to ensure the ‘smooth’ running of a project.
The word SMOOTH originates from Old English SMEOE meaning "free from roughness, not harsh, polished; soft; suave; agreeable".
These are certainly great qualities for a positive project!
ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference
Step Back
Last week I shared a ‘learn’ about how we all see things from our own perspective. I’m urging you this week to step back from a situation, person, business, project or even an email, and see if you can take a new perspective.
PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)
“What am I doing today that will shape the future I want?”
A big ‘ole question for you to process this week! What are the things that you’re doing right now that will ensure you achieve the future you want? Now the thing is, you first have to decide what your future-self looks like and then work backwards.
I’d love for you to send me your own stories / thoughts about this. Drop me a line with your answer / thoughts on this question
SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition - my gratitude or to be celebrated.
Structure
At GLAS, we are huge fans of structure - it provides us with a sense of confidence and clarity. Structure isn’t about being rigid and restrictive, but providing guidance, boundaries and steps while helping to align people. This week has reminded us of the issues that can occur when there is a lack of structure. The chaos that ensues is really quite challenging and detrimental - while wrapping your arms round a project and structuring it, is so much better!
