I Can Walk Away | Make | No Asshole Rule

Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.

You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:

Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge

LEARN
Something Worth Sharing

“I can walk away”

There isn’t a lot to add to this statement, it pretty much sums up my ‘learn’ this week. Well, OK then, let me explain why…

Have you ever been doing something, or responding to something or someone, and begun to wonder why? Perhaps the experience has become slightly toxic or tiring, you maybe start to feel stuck and that you’re going round in circles without a feeling of progress? Have you noticed yourself dreading the encounter? I’ve certainly had such occasions in my life - both professionally and personally.

But, you - like me - can choose to walk away. I’m not saying that this is easy, simple or quick, but it is possible. What’s more important about this is KNOWING you can walk away.

I’ve heard many people over the years sharing that they hate their: job, relationship, situation, Christmas, local area, weight, and many more things. When they realised that it was in their power to choose to walk away, they were actually able to cope far better with their current experience and could start to make improvements. The learn is not the walking away as such, it is knowing you CAN.

ENERGY
An emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s

Make

As someone with an engineering background, the word ‘make’ is an exciting with a good dose of energy.

When I looked it up, I found that it originates from an Old English word macian meaning "to give being to, give form or character to, bring into existence; construct, do, be the author of, produce; prepare, arrange, cause; behave, fare, transform".

Perhaps the ‘to give being to’ meaning is the reason it’s an exciting as a word.

ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference

Make Something Beautiful

I saw a cooking TV show recently and the amateur chef had a bit of a nightmare with her dessert. It looked absolutely awful. She didn’t give up though, she still managed to turn it into something beautiful. The action for this week is to take something and make it beautiful - a room, a presentation, an email, yourself, a meal…

PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)

“What’s my favourite thing that money can’t buy?”

I love this question! Share and discuss it with someone - or if you like to journal, see where your pen takes you!

I’d love for you to send me your own stories / thoughts about this. Drop me a line with your answer / thoughts on this question

SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition - my gratitude or to be celebrated.

Forward facing

I don’t know about you, but I have certainly had times of distraction and chaos. The shout out is the thing I find best to remember…face forwards - towards progress and purpose, even if it’s slow and challenging.

  • L: what have you learned?

  • E: what’s your energy / feeling word

  • A: what’s one thing you need to do?

  • P: what are you thinking / processing?

  • S: who or what can you shout out?
