You Can’t Buy What You Can’t See | Decide | How Leaders Show Up

Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.

You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:

Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge

LEARN
Something Worth Sharing

You Can’t Buy What You Can’t See

There’s a reason that influencers are influencers. To put it simply, they allow products and services to be seen - regardless of what you think about them. Personally, I find the idea of a ‘career influencer’ very strange, but there is no denying the power of influence.

Referrals are exactly the same - they influence you to use someone or something because you trust the referrer. In a similar vain, our teachers were incredible influencers in our lives - they showed us how to read, write, do maths etc. Coaches - including sports coaches - show us how ‘getting it right’ looks. TV chefs are influencers - they demonstrate and show us how to create amazing dishes. We are literally surrounded - and have been since time began - with influencers showing us what to do, how to do it, what to aspire to, and how to be.

You or I could have the very best product or idea in the world, but if no one knows about it - or how great it is really - does it actually have value, or is it just unmet potential?

It really is as straight forward as saying that if you don’t know about something, you can’t engage with it, want, or buy it. Surely, it is far more important to tell people about something that’s not quite the finished article yet, than spend time and money making it perfect, but in isolation? After all, no one can’t buy what they can’t see!

ENERGY
An emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s

Decide

The word ‘decide’ is from Latin decidere which held the same meaning then as it does now: "to decide, determine". The word literally means "to cut off" - formed from DE "off" + CAEDERE "to cut". When we decide something, we focus on one thing and cut off another.

ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference

Make Something

Bring back the child within you - and make something! You could make a meal, or a piece of art. Try and get creative, and have fun.

PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)

“What single, small thing could you do to transform your day?”

We have more power and choice over our experiences than we realise or accept. So, what small thing could you do that would transform your day?

I’d love for you to send me your own stories / thoughts about this. Drop me a line with your answer / thoughts on this question

SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition - my gratitude or to be celebrated.

People On The Inside

Have you ever known someone that was able to give you the heads up, help create introductions, provide you with the lay of the land and been able to give you ‘inside’ advice? My friend Alex Banayan, who wrote the amazing book The Third Door, talks about the importance of having an inside person. I’m shouting out those people that can help simply because they are on the inside and can open doors for you.

LEAPS is a process used by our team and clients all the time - and even my own family on a daily basis.

I’ll be sharing a set of LEAPS each week with you and encourage you to do your own version:

  • L: what have you learned?

  • E: what’s your energy / feeling word

  • A: what’s one thing you need to do?

  • P: what are you thinking / processing?

  • S: who or what can you shout out?
