The Stories We Tell Ourselves | Satisfy | Keep Going
Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.
You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:
Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge

The Stories We Tell Ourselves
We are all natural storytellers - but perhaps some of the most important stories we tell are the ones we tell ourselves. Every day, we narrate — often unconsciously — who we are, what we’re capable of, other people, and how the world works. These stories shape our beliefs, influence our choices, and ultimately determine our reality.
The challenge is that many of these stories were written long ago — by experiences, fears, or the voices of others — and we rarely stop to question whether they’re still true.
Self-awareness is what allows us to notice the stories we’re living by. When we pause to listen to our inner narrative and ask: “Is this story serving me, or limiting me?” we open the door to growth.
When we can see our stories as stories — not absolute truths — we give ourselves permission to challenge them with openness and curiosity. Rewriting our stories isn’t about denying the past; it’s about reclaiming authorship of the present. Here are 5 key learnings I’ve found helpful:
Your inner dialogue is powerful.
The words you repeat to yourself become the lens through which you see your life. Awareness is the first step to change.Self-awareness creates choice.
You can’t rewrite a story you don’t realise you’re telling. Paying attention to your thoughts and patterns gives you the power to choose differently.Old stories can’t create new outcomes.
When you outgrow a chapter but keep rereading it, you stay stuck. Letting go of outdated beliefs opens space for new possibilities.Challenge your stories.
When you notice a pattern or belief, ask yourself: “What if this isn’t the only version of the truth?” Curiosity creates room for growth.Rewrite with compassion.
When you revisit your story, don’t do it to judge yourself — do it to understand yourself. Every version of you was doing their best with what they knew.
ENERGY
An emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s
Satisfy
I love the musical Hamilton. There is a song called Satisfied which I happened to hear playing recently.
The word ‘satisfy’ is from the Latin word SATISFACERE meaning "discharge fully, comply with, make amends," literally "do enough". It made me wonder how often we are able to feel satisfied with ourselves - and understand that we are enough.
ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference
Challenge Your Story
Take five minutes to notice one story you tell yourself — about who you are, what you can or can’t do, or how things “always” go. Write it down, then ask yourself:
Is this story true?
Where did it come from?
What might be a truer or kinder version of this story today?
PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)
“What were my childhood beliefs about how successful I would be as an adult?”
I’m reading a book at the moment that suggests that our childhood beliefs about our future success in life tend to shape our ‘imposter feelings and thoughts’ as an adult. If we don’t believe we will be successful at a young age, it can lead to us feeling we don’t deserve success as an adult. This week’s question is one that I’ve been contemplating as a result.
I’d love for you to send me your own stories / thoughts about this. Drop me a line with your answer / thoughts on this question
SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition - my gratitude or to be celebrated.
Time To Think
I’m not talking about hours, just a few moments that you can take for yourself to think. I’m sure most of us are familiar with receiving an email or text message and replying instantly. This week’s shout out is taking a short time to think before acting or responding. Even just a few seconds can sometimes make all the difference!
