Take The Shot | Try | The Wealth Money Can’t Buy
Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.
You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:
Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge
LEARN
Something Worth Sharing
Take The Shot
We have all faced the decision of whether to do something or not. We have had to weigh up the risks of taking a chance or sitting back and not getting hurt. Our daughter had to make a call on whether to continue towards taking her driving test or to cancel and wait - something her driving instructor was pushing for (without wishing to cast aspirations, her not needing more lessons would mean no more income).
We talked through the pros and cons with her, given that she’s a pretty good driver now and had lots of extra miles on the road since having her own little car. Of course she may fail her test - but she can certainly resit it, if that is the case. But the bigger point we made was to point out that if she didn’t attempt the test, she definitely wouldn’t pass it. My husband reminded me of the famous Wayne Gretzky’s quote (well actually, it was his dad’s quote):
You Miss 100% of the Shots You Don't Take
If you don’t enter the race, start the business, take the shot, commit to a relationship, step forwards, make the call, put your hand up, risk failing…you won’t progress, get chosen, do well or succeed in that particular thing.
ENERGY
An emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s
Try
I read a fabulous book this week and within, it mentioned the issue associated with people saying they will “try” to do something. It highlighted the point that this can often lack commitment or real determination. It left me to look up the origins of the word.
To ‘try’ means to "examine judiciously, discover by evaluation, test" and is from Anglo-French TRIER meaning "to pick out, cull". This perhaps explains why it doesn’t have the sense of certainty and focus. When we ‘try’ we aren’t 100% ‘all in’.
ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference
Reconnect With Someone
Think of someone you’ve not been in touch with for a while and reach out - whether just to say ‘hi!’ and check in, or to arrange something more - such as a coffee or meet up.
PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)
“How do I want strangers to think of me?”
Just a little self-check in. How do you think you are perceived by people that are meeting you for the first time - or even on social media?
I’d love for you to send me your own stories / thoughts about this. Drop me a line with your answer / thoughts on this question
SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition - my gratitude or to be celebrated.
Smell of Memories
Have you ever smelled something and it transports you to the past? I remember the smell of the staircase in our old family’s manufacturing business and how it took me to being a child and visiting my grandfather. The smell of wood-shavings is my paternal grandfather. I love how closely our senses are connected to the memories we have and how scent can transport us. Shout out to all those wonderful smells and our powerful senses.

A: what’s one thing you need to do?
P: what are you thinking / processing?
S: who or what can you shout out?
