Inspiration of Others | Certain | Invisible Influence
Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.
You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:
Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge
LEARN
Something Worth Sharing
Inspiration of Others
Our greatest form of inspiration comes from others. While we can all marvel at the wonders of the world, stunning architecture and nature, we are naturally designed for human inspiration to trump everything else. The reason for this begins from our earliest needs: to learn and survive.
We all share a need for the same first inspiration - that of our mothers. We replicate the smile so that they accept us into the pack. We learn everything through the magic of inspiration - taking in what we see and experience.
While watching the Olympics coverage recently, I was struck by the number of Olympians that referred to a past champion and how they had been inspired to take up a sport, to be driven to achieve, to want their own medal, and so on. Seeing so many photos of a now-crowned champion stood - while a child - with their sporting hero, was a running theme.
It is a well-known fact that we are influenced by others in our ‘packs’, at sports, in group-think and that we are most like those we are surrounded by and spend our time with.
“You are the average of the top 5 people you spend the most time with.” –Jim Rohn
This reminds us that:
We need to be mindful of how we inspire others without realising it
We need to be mindful of how others inspire and influence us
We have a choice for who we spend time with and seek inspiration from
If we want to raise our game: raise our ‘inspiration’
People can inspire up and inspire down.
ENERGY
An emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s
Certain
Last week I focused on the word ‘try’ and that it lacks certainty, this led to this weeks word: CERTAIN.
CERTAIN is from Latin CERTUS meaning "determined, resolved, fixed, settled," of things whose qualities are invariable, established," also "placed beyond doubt, sure, true, proved; unerring, to be depended upon".
The word CERTAIN is something we enjoy - the belief in what will more than likely happen which provides us with clarity and assurance.
ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference
Do Something Scary
The book from last week reminded me of how important it is to stretch ourselves and to occasionally feel uncomfortable by doing something that scares us. So see what you can do that makes you feel a little scared and uncomfortable.
PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)
“What small acts of kindness have impacted me?”
Have a think about your life and see if you can recall small acts of kindness - not grand gestures or gifts, but simple and often understated kindness. How has this made you feel and what was the impact of a small act?
I’d love for you to send me your own stories / thoughts about this. Drop me a line with your answer / thoughts on this question
SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition - my gratitude or to be celebrated.
Sounds That Transport You
Last week I gave a shout out to scents that induce memories. This week I wanted to shout out another of our senses - this time, for sounds. In particular, I wanted to shout out music that takes us to an important past place - that eases us, brings a smile and allows us to reminisce.
