Both Choice and Decision | Detail| Be Your Future Self
Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.
You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:
Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge
LEARN
Something Worth Sharing
Both Choice and Decision
After a strange family situation recently, I found myself reflecting on just how many choices we make each day. While the exact number is impossible to define — because it depends on how you measure and on individual differences — some studies suggest the average person makes over 35,000 choices daily. That includes everything from subconscious micro-choices to life-changing, deliberate ones.
What struck me is not just the scale, but the quality of our choices and decisions. The most important factors are:
Awareness
Clarity
Confidence
Accountability
Adjustment
And in the spirit of awareness and clarity, it’s worth separating Choices and Decisions — and seeing how they work together.
Choices
About freedom, possibilities, and direction.
Rooted in values, clarity, and agency.
An internal orientation: the mindset and stance you hold.
Decisions
About commitment, action, and movement.
Rooted in specific circumstances and outcomes.
An external orientation: what you actually do.
How They Interact
Choice comes first: it defines your stance, your clarity, and your freedom to lead.
Decision follows: it executes that choice in a concrete, accountable way.
Choice is about who you are and what you stand for.
Decision is about what you do next.
ENERGY
An emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s
Detail
I was talking to someone recently about how easily we can get caught in unnecessary detail and at other times miss vital detail.
The word is from Old French detail "small piece or quantity" literally "a cutting in pieces" from DETAILLIER to "cut in pieces".
ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference
Take Your Time
I saw this action on a mug recently and was taken by the idea of simply ‘taking my time’. It actually felt like a message from the universe! I’m sharing this action with you this week, to just take your time!
PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)
“What are you trying to solve?”
I want to stress that the first and main value in this question is to let your mind take you to wherever it needs to. Solving things can sometimes focus too much on practical challenges - but, if we allow ourselves to sit with the question in a deeper way, we can go to the really important things that need solving. This might be within you - or external.
I’d love for you to send me your own stories / thoughts about this. Drop me a line with your answer / thoughts on this question
SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition - my gratitude or to be celebrated.
You’ve Got This
I stumbled across a picture of a greeting card that I created for a neighbour while dealing with treatment for breast cancer recently. The message was simply ‘you’ve got this’. These 3 words can be so valuable when used for the right person at the right time. I’ve had them said to me and they meant everything at the time.
