Nothing Happens in Isolation | Notice | The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck
Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.
You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:
Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge

Something Worth Sharing
Nothing Happens in Isolation
I was talking to a friend recently about coincidences.
Those strange moments when something happens at exactly the right time. You think of someone and they call. A conversation leads somewhere you weren't expecting. You meet somebody by chance who, months or even years later, becomes important to your life.
We started wondering whether coincidences really are coincidences - I'm not sure they are.
Not necessarily because I think everything happens for a reason, but because I believe that nothing happens in isolation. Every conversation leaves something behind. Every person we meet - including strangers - changes something, however slightly. Every experience affects the way we see the next one.
A decision that seems insignificant today might put us in a completely different place six months from now; call it the ‘Sliding Doors’ moment!
We tend to look for cause and effect in straight lines. This happened, therefore that happened. I’m not sure that is the best description of how things unfold, they are less like a line and more like a web.
Things overlap. People connect. Experiences accumulate. Something we learned years ago suddenly becomes useful and we hadn’t planned for that. Someone we haven't spoken to for ages reappears just when our worlds intersect again.
What we call coincidence is sometimes simply the moment when we notice the connection. We see two dots and suddenly realise there has been a wavy and sometimes messy line between them all along.
It makes me wonder how many connections are around us right now that we simply haven't noticed yet.
ENERGY
Focusing on an emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s
Notice
I love the word notice. Its roots take us back through Old French notece - information, knowledge, intelligence - to the Latin notitia, meaning knowledge or “a being known”, and ultimately to a much older root meaning “to know.”
So to notice isn't merely to look at something. It's to come to know it.
ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference
Find the Connection
Look back at something significant in your life and trace what led to it - the people, conversations, choices and seemingly insignificant moments. Notice what you know now that you couldn't have known then.
PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)
“What is something painful that, looking back, led to something amazing?”
To recognise how something painful may have created a path to something you could never have imagined at the time.
SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition, my gratitude or to be celebrated.
Carly
I’ve worked with my assistant, Carly, for more years than I can actually remember and, like all good things, our time working together has come to an end. She is quite rightly prioritising her family and has now left GLAS.
This week’s LEAPS is about how nothing happens in isolation — everything is connected and everything has an impact. So it feels like the perfect opportunity to recognise Carly and everything she has done for us over the years.
There will be countless things she has influenced, enabled, fixed and made happen that neither of us will ever fully know the impact of.
Thank you, Carly, for being part of our story and for all the connections, contributions and impact you leave behind. x
