Challenge The Rules | Boundaries| 7 Perspectives
Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.
You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:
Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge
LEARN
Something Worth Sharing
Challenge The Rules
I have always been obedient - until I wasn't! This is true for many of us, because from an early age this is one of the ways we attempt to be accepted.
We learn what pleases people, what disappoints them, what keeps the peace and what earns approval. We notice what we're praised for, what causes tension and what is better left unsaid.
Nobody necessarily tells us these are rules. We simply pick them up, learn them and follow them.
Because we learn them so early, they can follow us into adulthood without us ever questioning them.
We become the helpful one, the capable one, the one who doesn't make a fuss. We can end up as the one who keeps everyone happy.
The circumstances change, but the rules we live by don't always change with them.
We can spend years obeying rules we never consciously chose.
The important thing about this is the need to recognise that we are allowed to decide which ones we still want to follow.
ENERGY
Focusing on an emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s
Boundaries
The word boundary dates back to the 1620s and originally meant “that which indicates the limits of anything.” Strictly, it was a visible mark showing a dividing line, while a bound was the furthest point something could extend. I like that distinction. A boundary shows us where one thing ends and another begins.
ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference
Is It Yours?
Notice one rule you follow and ask yourself, “Is this mine to follow?”. If it isn’t, then do something about it.
PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)
“What are you still doing to be accepted that you no longer need to do?”
I asked myself this exact question at the start of this year, and it made me realise how much of what I was still doing belonged to an earlier need to be accepted.
SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition, my gratitude or to be celebrated.
Offer of Help
I was asked by someone this week what they could do to help me, knowing I was somewhat overwhelmed with ‘to-dos’. The acknowledgement and offer meant more than the practical help. Shout out to that wonderful person and also to offering help.

A: what’s one thing you need to do?
P: what are you thinking / processing?
S: who or what can you shout out?
