Life Accounting| Passengers | Greenlights

Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.

You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:

Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge

LEARN
Something Worth Sharing

Life Accounting

We’ve been having someone come to our home to do a variety of “odd-jobs” recently. While the jobs have slowly been ticked off, I dread the chap arriving at our home. He complains about previous workmanship and can find fault in almost every little thing. Compare this to the team that are laying our drive at the moment and you have the complete opposite: willing, hardworking, always with positive ideas, on time and are a joy to be around.

It dawned on me that in life, we have an ever-present ‘balance-sheet’. We have assets and liabilities - not necessarily financial, but emotional. A balance sheet is based on the fundamental equation of Assets = Liabilities + Equity. In life we can view this as Feeling Good & Positive Energy = Drains + Your Time & Effort. Over the past week or so I’ve struggled to hold liquidity! What has drained me, and the time and effort I’ve had to spend, has meant there’s been little left in the Feeling Good column!

The trick is to stop, to take a close look at the 3 parts of the equation, make some tough decisions and act on them. This is a constant need - to spot where your positives are coming from and what is draining - along with how much time and effort you’re spending. This is ‘life accounting’ - or to put it another way, to taking account of your life.

ENERGY
An emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s

Nourish

To go along with this week’s Learn, the word nourish came to mind. We must make sure that what we do and who we surround ourself with helps to nourish us rather than drain us.

The word NOURISH originates from Latin word NUTRIRE meaning "to feed, nurse, foster, support, preserve". This was NUTRI "to swim, flow, let flow (as in suckle)".

ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference

Passengers

Think about who is in your life and who nourishes and who drains. Use this image as a guide to help you…

PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)

“What motivates me?”

This was a question that one of our GLAS team members asked recently. My answer included the ‘the fear of letting people down’. What is on your list?

I’d love for you to send me your own stories / thoughts about this. Drop me a line with your answer / thoughts on this question

SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition - my gratitude or to be celebrated.

Backups

We invited our friends over for a meal last week. I prepared a lasagne - a meat one and a vegetarian one - and popped them in the oven. The oven then decided to lock itself. We’ve had this happen before, but this time we couldn’t get it to open. Meanwhile, we had hungry guests! Luckily we have a second oven due to the amount of cakes and baking I do. Just as I was about to find something from the freezer (chicken nuggets!) to pop in our second oven, my husband managed to prize the ‘lasagne’ oven open and retrieve the two dishes. I quickly put them into the operational oven and managed to feed our dinner guests.

Sometimes we need a backup - oven in my case, but also team members (the subs), strategies (plan Bs), outfits (when something is damaged) etc. Shout out all the subs and backups that save the day!

LEAPS is a process used by our team and clients all the time - and even my own family on a daily basis.

I’ll be sharing a set of LEAPS each week with you and encourage you to do your own version:

  • L: what have you learned?

  • E: what’s your energy / feeling word

  • A: what’s one thing you need to do?

  • P: what are you thinking / processing?

  • S: who or what can you shout out?
