Know ‘Your People’ | Relate | Who Not How
Hello there! Welcome to my weekly LEAPS.
You’re receiving this email because you subscribed to my weekly Wednesday feature or our mailing list. Every Wednesday, I share 5 things using our LEAPS approach:
Learn: something new or an idea
Energy: an energy (good or bad) word and it’s meaning
Action: something to do
Processing: a question to consider
Shout out: something or someone that I want to celebrate or acknowledge

Know ‘Your People’
We often assume we know who “our people” are:
The ones we’ve known the longest.
The ones we’re closest to on paper.
The ones we expect will always be there.
But this isn’t always how it plays out. What I have come to experience is that adversity has a way of clarifying things, quickly and quietly: who checks in, who stays steady, and who disappears. Sometimes, the biggest surprise is this:
It’s not always who you thought it would be.
This is because “your people” aren’t fixed. Over time you see that some stay, some step forward when it matters, some quietly step back, and some were never really there in the way you thought. Relationships are living systems, they evolve, shift, and change over time whether we acknowledge it or not.
It’s fair to say that some, unexpectedly, become far more important than you realised. Your people can - and will - change. Not all of them, but some of them. It’s not a failure or something to resist. It is a reflection of growth, of circumstance, of truth becoming clearer over time.
The reality is that “your people” aren’t defined by history, proximity, or expectation - they’re defined by behaviour. They will be the ones that show up, hold you, stay when it would have been easier to walk away. Of course, not everyone will like you, not everyone will stay and not everyone is meant to be “your person” - but some people are.
When you notice who they are, you can change how you relate, who you trust, and where you place your time and energy.
ENERGY
Focusing on an emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s
Relate
Following on the theme of ‘your people’, this week’s word is Relate. It means to connect, to understand, and to respond to others in a way that creates meaning between you.
Originating from Latin relatus (past participle of referre) meaning “to bring back, carry back, or connect.” Over time it evolved to mean showing how things are connected or telling how one thing links to another.
At its core, relate is about connection, how we link, respond, and make sense of one another through our actions.
ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference
There For You
Notice who actually shows up for you this week - who is there for you.
Write down 2-3 names, then ask yourself:
What did they do?
How did it make me feel?
What does that tell me about our relationship?
PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)
“Am I giving my time and energy to the people who truly show up for me?”
It’s easy to assume where our time and energy should go, but this question helps you pause and check whether your investment matches the people who actually show up for you.
This question will be added to the Community Space in the Leapers Club for you to share your thoughts.
SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition, my gratitude or to be celebrated.
Clarity Space
Having recently come across an article from Gino Wickman, he described the importance of his weekly “Clarity Space.” He’s spot on.
The ability to step away from the day-to-day and create space to think clearly is often what makes the difference. He heads to a coffee shop for a couple of hours each week, something I’ve found hugely valuable too - however it looks for you, structured time, a change of environment, or simply stepping out of the noise - creating clarity space is worth protecting. It’s where better thinking begins.
Live Leaps Virtual Event:
Balance is Not What You Think
Overview:
Most people are trying to fix “balance” by managing time. This session reframes balance as something deeper, across the different parts of your life. You’ll explore where you may be under or overcompensating, and what true balance actually looks like for you.
Who It’s For:
Anyone feeling stretched, stuck, or slightly off, even if things look fine on the surface.
When:
Wednesday, Jun 24th (12:00 PM - 01:00 PM BST)
