OK, I’m guessing that caught your attention! But while we’re happy to talk about any sh*t you want to talk through, we do actually mean what really motivates you? Or what is it that MOVES you - physically or emotionally?

In a similar way to LEADING, we have an often confusing understanding or set of beliefs about ‘motivation’. Within the GLAS Method, we go back to simple basics and start by understanding what drives our needs, and therefore behaviours. What is it that turns someone into a control freak? Why do we endure parties with horrendous family members, and why on earth do we adore attention from annoying sales people?
I’m assuming that you - like most people - have stumbled across Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Did you know that this was created by as a 1943 paper called "A Theory of Human Motivation" after studying monkeys? Several things are concerning about the model - one being that it was developed 70 years ago and another being we might act like it, but we aren’t monkeys! Humans and monkeys are both primates. But humans are not descended from monkeys or any other primate living today. We do share a common ape ancestor with chimpanzees from 6 million years ago - just saying! The final thing here is that we need something that we can apply and use as we consider what makes us and others tick…to better understand ourselves and our behaviours - and just what drives our weird and wonderful behaviour?
