Something Worth Sharing

In This Moment

My learn this week is one that I often need to remind myself of; right in this moment - here and now - I am okay.

The world is shifting at an ever-increasing speed and change is happening constantly. From the minute we wake, we are bombarded with opinions, comparisons, extremes, conflict, pressures and division. I know that recently I have struggled to not get swept up in it all - and I realised that none of it is serving me well, or is aligned to my values and purpose.

I can’t do anything about the unpredictability around us, wars, world politics, the utter rubbish that gets shared on social media, the dreadful behaviour of so-called adults, or even the devastatingly tragic loss our family friends have just had. What I can do, however, is pause and breathe - and then remind myself that right in this moment, all is okay. Doing this simple thing allows me to think of the world in better terms, and then I know how to be of service to those around me. If I don’t do this simple thing, I am no use to anyone.

ENERGY
An emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s

Attitude

As the wise Zig Ziglar said:

“Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.”

I have a friend who is very focused on the word attitude and I know she would certainly agree with this quote. The word ‘attitude’ is from Late Latin APTITUDO. It means "disposition, posture, fit". It was understood as "state or quality of being fit (for a purpose or position)". What’s interesting is that originally the word attitude and aptitude meant the same!

Now attitude refers to the perspective and position a person takes, whereas aptitude measures a person’s ability to acquire a new skill or ability.


ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference

Do The Opposite

While reading a new book, there is a big focus on encouraging us to ‘do the opposite’ in terms of marketing (you’ll get to hear more about this in due course). This led to this week’s Action idea - to do the opposite. If you have a usual pattern of behaviour, especially one that doesn’t serve you well - try doing the opposite. If you shy away from things, be brave and do the opposite. Challenge yourself this week to just stop and consider what the opposite could look like.


PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)

“Who - and what - creates energy for you? Equally, who - and what - drains your energy?”

A Safe Place

After delivering some workshops recently, we set out to make sure we firstly created a safe place for the delegates. This was vital in order for them to feel secure, to be able to fully listen and participate, and to have fun. It can be easy to take safe places for granted when we have them - but this week’s shout out is to shine a light on having a safe place whether that is emotionally or physically. My team and family allow me to always have a safe place to talk openly, to be myself and perform at my best.
