Something Worth SharingTo Jump In Or Not
When humans are under pressure there is a strange thing that happens, we revert to ‘action’. Even when we sometimes know better, we can end up jumping in head first. Our survival strategies of doing what we can set in. When we suffer loss or trauma, we get practical and busy. Even when our primitive triggers of fight and flight set in, they are there to lead us to types of action. While working with a few folks recently, we watched them completing a task. Even before some had finished reading the instructions, others were instantly jumping in. While action is often admirable, the question of whether - and even when - to jump in or not, is essential. My daughter is currently doing her final exams at school and we reminded her of the importance of ‘reading the question in full’. Taking even just an extra second to process before jumping in can mean the difference between knowing what’s required and heading down the wrong path! This is the same for conversations; listen fully before jumping in.
