Something Worth SharingBuild The Experience Like many in the UK, we celebrated the Platinum Jubilee for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II by holding a street party. This is the second street party that I’ve led since we have lived in our current house. On Sunday, while in the full throws of merriment, dancing and drinking - I turned to take in the view of hundreds of my neighbours, ranging in age between 3 weeks and 98 years old, laughing and having a wonderful time together. We have lots of photos and videos of the event - we even appeared on the local news - but nothing can truly capture the essence of the day, and what we experienced. Together, we built a special experience - a real, genuine and unique shared experience that I hope will stay with everyone for years to come. We still recall the first street party on our road from 2012 (the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee), when we had biblical rain. Many of us chatted about our experience of the 1977 Silver Jubilee and how we dressed up and sat with neighbours and friends. The Silver Jubilee was a significant experience for me because aged 5, I remember it being when my parent’s friends and neighbours decided to start a residents association for the occasion. They went on to hold annual events as a local community ranging from Christmas parties to treasure hunts, and big barbecues to wine tasting evenings. My learn is this; never underestimate the power of building an experience because it is our experiences that stay in our hearts and minds - and those of our customers, colleagues, family, friends, children and neighbours. Even though I was just 5, my experience - and the legacy of my parents neighbours - led to me hold our own street party. I hope there’s a 5 year old that enjoyed their Jubilee and will perhaps be inspired to do something in their community as an adult.
