Something Worth SharingThe Stories We Tell Ourselves We are all natural storytellers - but perhaps some of the most important stories we tell are the ones we tell ourselves. Every day, we narrate — often unconsciously — who we are, what we’re capable of, other people, and how the world works. These stories shape our beliefs, influence our choices, and ultimately determine our reality. The challenge is that many of these stories were written long ago — by experiences, fears, or the voices of others — and we rarely stop to question whether they’re still true. Self-awareness is what allows us to notice the stories we’re living by. When we pause to listen to our inner narrative and ask: “Is this story serving me, or limiting me?” we open the door to growth. When we can see our stories as stories — not absolute truths — we give ourselves permission to challenge them with openness and curiosity. Rewriting our stories isn’t about denying the past; it’s about reclaiming authorship of the present. Here are 5 key learnings I’ve found helpful: Your inner dialogue is powerful.
The words you repeat to yourself become the lens through which you see your life. Awareness is the first step to change. Self-awareness creates choice.
You can’t rewrite a story you don’t realise you’re telling. Paying attention to your thoughts and patterns gives you the power to choose differently. Old stories can’t create new outcomes.
When you outgrow a chapter but keep rereading it, you stay stuck. Letting go of outdated beliefs opens space for new possibilities. Challenge your stories.
When you notice a pattern or belief, ask yourself: “What if this isn’t the only version of the truth?” Curiosity creates room for growth. Rewrite with compassion.
When you revisit your story, don’t do it to judge yourself — do it to understand yourself. Every version of you was doing their best with what they knew.
