The Magic of Outstanding Content & Delivery

Have you ever listened to someone leading a workshop or seminar and struggled to stay awake, despite them being an absolute expert in their field? Perhaps you have been thoroughly entertained during a presentation, but really didn’t take away any new learning or information. While I have used the examples of someone delivering content in person, I could have equally used similar examples of books you’ve read, people you’ve met, customer service experiences you’ve encountered, vacations you’ve had, products you’ve bought…and the list goes on. My point is that we are surrounded by people, products and organisations that are great at just one of two things - but often not both.

The two things I’m referring to are 1) content and 2) delivery. There are far less examples of being able to perfect both, however when we do, it’s like magic! Steve Jobs - and Apple - is a very quick example of outstanding content and delivery. Simon Sinek is also a master of both content and delivery. Content and delivery are two vital parts of an equation.

Content can be knowledge, skills, experience, technical or physical components and is often the part you need or want. Delivery is the way in which the content arrives and is often the part that leaves you feeling something. Both parts are usually critical, but that doesn’t mean both are executed well. We could be eating at an expensive restaurant made with the best ingredients (great content) and have a waiter that is downright rude (poor delivery).

The brilliance of outstanding content plus delivery sets brands apart - Netflix has great content that is constantly refreshed and appeals to the masses, and its delivery is simple. Amazon is another example of wide ranging content (there doesn’t seem to be anything they don’t have) and a single ‘buy it’ delivery - supported by an increasing huge network of couriers. They are also viewed as 2nd best globally for customer service - with seamless returns and refunds.

Whether you as an individual or your team and business need to have great content and delivery - do you?

ENERGY
Focusing on an emotion or energy; a stand-out word / s

Fundamental

I spotted this word on the cover of a book I’m reading. The etymology was quite fascinating - especially from the late thirteenth century when it meant "foundation, base; buttocks, anus"!

The word is originates from Latin fundamentum "a foundation, ground-work; support; beginning". In my mind it will always be linked to one’s rear!

ACTION
Something small that you can do that might make a big difference

Recharge

My family and I are away this week - and the focus for us is to recharge. I’m recommending this as your action too, however you wish to do it!

PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)

“What causes matter most to me?”

In this week’s recommended non-fiction book, one of the things that gets mentioned quite a lot is the need to have a cause - something that you feel strongly about and interests you. What are the things that would be on your list?

Mountains

We are spending our week in the French Alps - in the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur region. When we drive to the resort - the small village of Le Monêtier-les-Bains which we tend to think of as a second home - I am always in awe of the mountains. They are simply magnificent while we are but a small speck passing through them. They never change - apart from by the season and being covered in snow or a blanket of small flowers. They are both welcoming and yet foreboding.
