Something Worth SharingDifferent Route - Different Perspective
Three times a week I travel to my training session - a place I’ve gone to for almost two years now. Each time, my journey takes about 20 minutes there and back. I don’t tend to see much traffic as the sessions are early and before the peak traffic starts to build in the morning. My car could almost get there all on it’s own now. The routine, the route, the timings etc all remain very much the same - to the point that sometimes I’m not even fully aware of the particulars of the journey. Then last week things changed. I’d been aware of road works looming that would mean a significant part of the route would be closed. This would mean a new plan and a new route. This week Plan B came into force and rather than being annoyed at the inconvenience, break in routine and additional 7 miles, I’ve found that the different route has some interesting advantages. I am paying more attention to my surroundings The new route is far greener - with open spaces I’ve spotted different things happening in the local area It seems to prepare me better for my training session
My learn this week is that taking different routes creates different perspectives. Whether we are forced to take a new route - or we are deliberate in choosing to mix things up a little - it creates opportunities through a change of perspective. This is something we can do in our every day lives and business - making sure we change our approach, environment and perspective on a regular basis. Doing something the same way forever is never a great idea! Not only can new routes provide new perspectives, they can also improve our neuroplasticity - helping the brain adapt and change. New environments and routes support positive changes in the brain - improving our focus and attention, decision-making abilities and supporting us to better overcome challenges.
