SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition, my gratitude or to be celebrated.Hands My Grandpa - who was my hero - was a carpenter. His hands where rough, but strong. I recall a difficult time in my life many years ago, and as I was sat next to him in tears - with him being lost for words - he reached out his hand and took mine. It meant everything - it was all I needed. Pre-COVID19 we would reach out our hands to greet others, shaking their hands. Many deals have been sealed through a hand-shake. I think most of us have been comforted by a simple hand on the arm. As a parent, holding hands with my children was a way of protecting them, showing affection and knowing where they were! I love baking, cake decorating, hand-drawing, crocheting (a new skill being developed!) and other crafts that all involve my hands. As a former ballet dancer, the shape of our hands were linked to grace and communication. As a former ice dancer, hands connected me to my partner and the correct ‘dance hold’. This week I’m shouting out ‘hands’ - and urge you to think about key moments in your life and work where your hands have been not just practical but symbolic. They show our age, our nerves (for those that bite nails), our health, our work, our marital status (if you choose to wear a wedding ring), how clean we are and so on. They can express so much - including anger. Hands can heal and be open to others.
