Something Worth Sharing“Go To” & “Leave From” People One of the GLAS tools we use is a suite of black and white images that reveal people’s inner thoughts and feelings (known as Visual Perception Analysis or VPA). One of the images we use includes a man with his back to the camera - walking on a road, wearing a hat and holding a case in his right hand. We begin by asking the client or audience a simple question… ”Is he GOING TO somewhere or LEAVING FROM somewhere?”
I once had someone say that these two things were the same - going to and leaving from. However, while the actions may look the same, the intent is most certainly not. When human’s move from something it is because we are wired to avoid discomfort - physical or emotional. Moving from something is leaving the past and what has been. This can include situations that become too complicated or overwhelming. When we move to something, it is in pursuit of pleasure and improvement. Moving to something is linked to the future. In many ways it is easier to stay put and tolerate a difficult situation - including the pain of it - than risk moving to an unknown future. That is, until the situation or environment becomes so unbearable that we end up with little choice but to move from it out of necessity. Entrepreneurs, adventurers, innovators, pioneers and early adopters are able to move to new places (physically and emotionally) - they are willing to brave the unknown in the hope of something better. They have two things that will make this possible - confidence and clarity, not of what might happen, but confidence in themselves and clarity of possibility and purpose. They are able to back themselves and face whatever may be round the corner. There are far more people that prefer to wait until they are forced to move than are able to risk what is possible. Which are you - a “Go To” or “Leave From” person? Will this change in 2024?
