Something Worth SharingInspiration of OthersOur greatest form of inspiration comes from others. While we can all marvel at the wonders of the world, stunning architecture and nature, we are naturally designed for human inspiration to trump everything else. The reason for this begins from our earliest needs: to learn and survive. We all share a need for the same first inspiration - that of our mothers. We replicate the smile so that they accept us into the pack. We learn everything through the magic of inspiration - taking in what we see and experience. While watching the Olympics coverage recently, I was struck by the number of Olympians that referred to a past champion and how they had been inspired to take up a sport, to be driven to achieve, to want their own medal, and so on. Seeing so many photos of a now-crowned champion stood - while a child - with their sporting hero, was a running theme. It is a well-known fact that we are influenced by others in our ‘packs’, at sports, in group-think and that we are most like those we are surrounded by and spend our time with. “You are the average of the top 5 people you spend the most time with.” –Jim Rohn
This reminds us that: We need to be mindful of how we inspire others without realising it We need to be mindful of how others inspire and influence us We have a choice for who we spend time with and seek inspiration from If we want to raise our game: raise our ‘inspiration’ People can inspire up and inspire down.
