Something Worth SharingGet Pruning I have had the honour of working with my husband on his business and strategy in the latter part of this year. I’ve also worked with several other clients on building confidence and clarity in their businesses. The big learn this week comes from each of these businesses - the need to prune back in order to support growth. I’m certainly no gardener! However, I do know - and appreciate - the importance of cutting back plants in order to encourage new shoots and growth. It’s amazing how easily we can accumulate and hoard unnecessary things within our businesses and in our lives. In doing so, we can almost suffocate the great stuff and prevent growth. The beauty of simplicity and stripping back isn’t just to make things manageable for ourselves, it enables our clients to see what we are selling - and importantly, what they want to buy. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve told people to be clear about the one beautiful ‘must have’ offering they have - the clear product or service. Equally, I’ve encouraged a far greater understanding of the beautiful ‘must have’ clients they want to work with. Being niche feels dangerous, but is one of the most empowering things you can do as it allows focus and strategies to develop. Pruning involves the careful alignment of what you currently have and questioning if this will support your future, vision and purpose. What is working for you and what is working against you? Pruning is a selective, deliberate and considered process. In summary, pruning is a constant requirement to support future growth. What once worked may no longer be of such benefit - so get pruning!
