Where You Stand

24 years ago today my first born came into the world and I became ‘mum’. I remember on that day standing with this new life in my arms full of hope and love - for the life ahead, and of fear and uncertainty - as a new parent not knowing what to do.

Today I stand 24 years forward from that position and now as a parent to two adults - and one well on her way to being one. Where I stand today is proud and amazed at the people that they are in their own right.

We are never really standing still - it is an illusion. We have no say in this, however we can choose to add to the movement and to step to the side to change perspective, backwards to understand and reflect, or forwards to accelerate.

As we stand at the edge of fear or uncertainly we can be reminded of hope and opportunity. No matter what crap we’re stood in, we can choose to see it as the nutrients needed for growth. Where you stand - and how you perceive - is your choice.

ENERGY

Transition

As we approach the end of 2021 and beginning of 2022, my mind went to the idea of a bridge - from the old to the new. A bridge is often the point of transition between two points.

The word TRANSITION is from Latin TRANSIRE meaning "a going across or over" which is formed from TRANS meaning "across, beyond"+ IRE meaning "to go". This wonderfully describes a bridge.

At the end of this LEAPS communication, as always I gift you a visual from a great book, but this week I have also created a sheet called YOUR VISUAL YEAR to fill in. This week I urge you to download it and fill it in.

It has been designed around 2 of the GLAS tools: 1) LEAPS (which you’ll be familiar with) and 2) ALIGN.

ALIGN:

  What you need to accept from the past year. These are the things you can’t change

• LEAVE BEHIND
  The things - or feelings - you want, or need, to leave behind

  These are the things (or people) that have ignited you positively and / or negatively. The things that inspired or annoyed

  What you’re grateful for from the past year

• NEXT

  Thinking ahead, what are the dreams or ideas for the next 12 months?

PROCESSING
A question to think about and consider (you can discuss this with someone or write your thoughts down)

“Who do you want to be?”

We are the product of our experiences, behaviour and choices - and while we can’t change what has happened to us we can influence what our experiences and choices are in the future.

We can be deliberate in choosing who we want to be - and then create the behaviours to support this. As an example, if you want to be a better friend, you would consider the actions that support this such as reaching out regularly to someone.

Every day, week and year we can decide who we want to be. We can also apply this to who we want our team, family and business to be too.

SHOUT OUT
Who / what I think deserves recognition, my gratitude or to be celebrated.

Friends, Family and the Others

I’m talking to you - as someone that receives this, you are a friend of GLAS and Visual Synopsis. I was struck last week by the incredible support of people like you that stepped up on my behalf when someone (and their book summary app) were revealed to be using my visual synopsis pieces without permission - and charging people to access them. As many of you will know, I gift my visuals free of charge - for personal use.

While this particular individual and his app were not officially breaking the law by their actions (ridiculous but true) - they were acting without fairness or integrity. While it hurt me deeply, I was lifted by those that felt incensed on my behalf. It showed how important it is when we see an injustice, that we step forwards and call it out. As a consequence, the work has been taken down.

My shout out also includes ‘and the others’. By this I’m referring to people like the chap mentioned. My shout out is due to (1) the ‘others’ help us to appreciate our friends and (2) they often teach us something, in my case it is to watermark everything displayed publicly.

Seriously though, thank you to you all for your amazing comments, requests, support and involvement.

Here’s to a fabulous and deliberate 2022.
